Paintings of the Family

I wrote, in my last post, about how our children pick up on my interests and passions.

Because they are so ready to imitate, I find that I have to be active and interested in doing things myself. I think that's an important reason why our homeschooling works. It's as though I'm the captain of a ship, safely steering them all to really wonderful destinations. Well, that's the theory, anyway!

At the moment, I'm quite busy trying to resurrect my portrait work. I have passed up some exhibiting opportunities, through lack of time - the family has to come first - but, still, I'd like to keep up art as a hobby, and the children, once again, are imitating with their own artworks.

The painting above is an oil painting of my second eldest daughter from a number of years ago. As always, I can see a lot of faults in it, but it reminds me so much of how she used to be and that makes me feel a bit gooey inside:) The acrylic painting below also takes me right back in time. This is a portrait of my two eldest girls, at one and three years old. It's unfinished and lacking in tone, but, again, I have a soft spot for it because of the beloved subjects:-)

I'm not sure whether to keep my portrait blog or post my pictures here, instead. My art blog doesn't seem to have a purpose, now that I'm no longer exhibiting, but I'm wondering how I can fit this stuff in with our homeschooling theme. It would be easier to have just the one blog, though...

Maybe, I'll look to the stats for feedback - if they suddenly plummet, I'll know to leave out the boring art piccies!

Beautiful! Your kids must be proud to have such a talented mother.

I am no expert on blog-reading habits, but people have told me that some variety can be really helpful in a blog. Especially when you are really good at something.. And if it's visual, I think it's a real bonus!

WOW ... these are fantastic. You are really talented. They look so realistic, like photographs. Not even Rembrandt painted that well.

God bless.

These paintings are beautiful, Vicky!

It's very hard finding time for things other than taking care of family, isn't it? And I only have 1 child! I never know where the day goes :) I'm glad you are still working on your art though - you are very gifted.

Willa, I get a bit worried about showing off my pictures in case it seems proud - but I enjoy sharing a picture as much as a written post. I guess it's just the visual part of me.

Thank you for your kind comment, Willa:-)

Rembrandt is one of my heroes, Victor! You have no idea how your words have helped me. I had a lot of struggles with technique, last year, and I decided that my pictures were no good so I stopped painting and drawing.

I felt so happy and encouraged when I read the kind comments from you and Willa and Mary, this morning. Thank you!!

God bless:-)

You're right, Mary - it can get hard to fit everything in, without neglecting our special people. When I was struggling with my art, it didn't seem worth the sacrifice. But now, I'm wondering if I can try to glorify God in my role as a mother and, if it's His will, through the art, too.

Thank you for your support, Mary - you've always been so encouraging.

God bless:-)

Vicky,

After creating more blogs than any sensible person should, I'd say post everything on one blog. It's much easier. I have a variety of posts on my blog. Some stories might only appeal to one group of readers... but no one seems to mind.

Your drawings and paintings will add special visual appeal to this blog.

Thank you, Sue. Yes, I think you're right. Two blogs is too time consuming.

Thank you for your encouragement.xx

Vicky, You paint and draw so well! I can learn so much from you! You paint just like I would like to paint one day!

Thank you, Monica! These were done a number of years ago - I would probably do them a lot different, now. I love your art, too! Perhaps, we an learn from each other:-)

God bless:-)
